Books and other resources addressing systemic racism and ways to combat it

Welcome. This guide provides a curated selection of resources and materials on topics related to anti-racism, racial justice, and systemic racism. This guide seeks to provide support to those that are interested in learning more about these topics and provide a launching point for those interested in conducting research on these subjects. In addition, this guide can also serve as a resource for instructors who are interested in diversifying or decolonizing their course readings and resources. The guide is a living document, and will change, adapt, and evolve based on feedback and community input.

This LibGuide is intended to provide resources to understand the structural inequities and systemic racism that have impacted BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) over generations. The stories and perspectives shared are by no means limited to this LibGuide. We encourage you to also visit other resources provided below to foster a better understanding.

The intention of this guide is to provide information resources related to the BLM movement and its founding. Resources have been placed in various topics or categories. It goes without saying that many titles could have been placed in more than one category. As with most online library guides new resources or categories may be added. Please revisit this site for updates.

The purpose of this Antiracism Resources guide is to provide faculty, staff, and students with a primer for understanding racism, antiracism, white privilege, allyship, and antiracist pedagogy. This guide also offers starting material on racism and antiracism in each field of study offered at Merrimack College, divided by schools. Some of the sections have been combined or are shorter than others due to the scarcity of sources in that field of study. We have also included a section dedicated to support materials for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC).

This guide serves as a starting point to learn about anti-oppression, inclusion, and privilege, as well as to provide resources to key social justice issues. The New York Tech community is welcome to suggest recommendations.

This guide was developed in 2013 in response to requests from Swarthmore students, faculty, and staff to clarify terminology that came up in discussions around diversity and inclusion. (Learn more here.) As of 2019, this site is no longer actively updated, but the definitions, articles, and other resources are still available.

This Guide, organized in consultation with the UC San Diego Library Diversity and Inclusion Committee with contributions from others across the library, is not a definitive guide. The guide will evolve over time and we welcome your thoughts, suggestions and corrections.
The guide was created to flow from educating users to the topics of racism and anti-racism, taking a deeper dive into details and exploration of the scholarship, delivering educational resources to use in the classroom or for self-education, and then to build sustained and actionable practices for individuals and institutions.
