Resources for Locating Court Cases

 

LexisNexis Academic - Legal Research   
Students can use LexisNexis Academic to access primary source material such as case law, statutes and regulations or dive into secondary source materials such as legal news or law reviews for background or analysis of a legal topic. Now they can even validate their case law research with Shepard’s® Citations for the Supreme Court. Decisions from the US Supreme Court, District Courts, Courts of Appeals and more, are available, as well as federal laws and regulations and the codes of all 50 states. (See search tips below)

United States Supreme Court Opinions     
Fulltext of US Supreme Court cases from 2000 to the present.

Oyez Project  
Provides abstracts, vote summaries, and other materials for leading constitutional law cases decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. Listen to the oral arguments presented in many of the cases, using Real Audio. The Oyez Project links to FindLaw for the fulltext of cases.

The Oxford Companion to the Supreme Court of the United States     
Authoritative reference to Supreme Court cases, justices, legal issues and terminology. Each case entry includes a U.S. Reports citation, date argued, date decided, and authors of majority, concurring and dissenting opinions. 


North Carolina Court Opinions     
Fulltext of N.C. Supreme Court cases from 1997 and N.C. Court of Appeals cases from 1996.
