About this Guide

"I think it's important for people to see themselves in books, and I think it's important to see other people in books. Our books should reflect our society. I think that's why diversity is so very important." - Danielle Paige

#OwnVoice, a hashtag originally created by author Corinne Duyvis, signifies library resources discussing diverse subjects written by authors sharing the same identity as the subject.

This guide presents the North Carolina Special Collection's materials regarding marginalized characters that have been written by authors who share that same identity.

All materials can be found in Joyner Library's North Carolina Special Collections or electronically in the Library Catalogue.
