Searching for Nursing Theorists

Finding information about nursing theorists

Finding literature written by nursing theorists

  • One Search
    • On the search results page, click on Options, then select Author Name in the first field
    • Update your search to see results that were written by your selected theorist
  • CINAHL
    • In the search bar, type (AU "Last Name, First Name")
      • Example: (AU "Orem, Dorothea") 
    • Note that including the author's full first name or just the first initial may have different results
      • Example: (AU "Orem, Dorothea") vs (AU "Orem, D")
  • Scopus
    • On the search screen, click on Authors
    • Type in the last name and first name or first initial of the theorist
  • Google Scholar
    • In Google Scholar, click the menu icon in the top left corner of the page (three horizontal lines)
    • Select Advanced Search
    • Type the name of your selected theorist in the Return articles authored by field

    • In the search bar, type your search terms, then include AND "name of your theory/theorist" AND (framework OR theory OR model)
      • Example: self-care AND students AND Orem AND (framework OR theory OR model)
