ECU Libraries Journal Subscription Changes: FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this mean to me?

This means that you may not have access to some  published journal articles through the Elsevier Science Direct interface you are accustomed to. Going forward the library will subscribe to some of the most heavily used Elsevier journal titles.

Why is this happening?

The price of our big deals, especially Elsevier, has outgrown the budget we are able to allocate for it.  Altering our big deal with Elsevier is the only way we can stay within our budget.

How will I access the articles I need?

Starting in January 2017 you will need to place a request thru ILLiad, our interlibrary loan service, for any articles we no longer have immediately accessible. You will receive your documents, in many cases, within 24-48 hours, by email. The library will provide the articles at no charge to you.

Who can I contact for more information?

You can contact _William Gee (geec@ecu.edu)  for further assistance with Joyner Library’s interlibrary loan service; if you work in the Division of Health Sciences, you can contact Carrie Forbes (forbesc@ecu.edu) at Laupus Library for assistance with interlibrary loan.  For questions about the libraries’ journal packages and budget, please contact Joseph Thomas (thomasw@ecu.edu).
