The Eastern Reflector Index for the years 1882 – 1906, found on the NC Collection home page, contains a number of articles on the cotton industry.

 

Sanborn Maps

 

The Sanborn Map Company's fire insurance maps show locations of and provide information about buildings, railroads, bridges, streets and other features of towns and cities within each county in the state. Maps are from the late nineteenth century into the twentieth century. Maps show textile mills in the towns and also the mill villages surrounding them. There is also information on how the plants were heated, lighted, etc. The Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps for

North Carolina are available on microfilm in the North Carolina Collection and are also accessed electronically by those using campus computers or who have a Pirate ID through the Sanborn Maps North Carolina database.

 

North Carolina Newspapers

 

The Guide to North Carolina Newspapers on Microfilm shows if a newspaper was published in the town where a textile mill exists. Many newspapers carried articles proposing investments in new mills or references to existing ones.
