3D Printing: Workshops/Trainings

A guide to 3D printing at Joyner Library.

Workshops/Training Announcements

3D printing specialists in Joyner Library's Teaching Resources Center, will lead introductory workshops on 3D printing in Joyner Library room 1020. The times and dates are below.

These workshops will offer participants a hands-on opportunity to learn about and create objects using 3D printing technology.

3D Printer Training

Interesting in learning how to use one of our 3D Printers?

Schedule a consultation for a one-on-one training session!

At the conclusion of these 30-45 minute training sessions you will:

  • Load/Unload filament
  • Learn how to use Simplify3D to slice your own models
  • Maintain accurate print logs
  • Learn the finer details of 3D printing!

Learn how to use the FlashForge Creator Pro, the Lulzbot TAZ 5, or Fusion3 F400.

Introduction to 3D Printing

Introduction to 3D Printing

Are you curious about how 3D printing works and how you can create and print your own 3D models?  In this class, we will provide an overview of 3D printing technologies, learn about the Joyner Library's 3D printing service, and introduce basic 3D modeling tools and online model repositories.

Participants will learn to design a small part in Tinkercad (www.tinkercad.com), a beginner level 3D modeling software. ***No experience necessary.

All sessions will be held in Joyner Library, room 1020. Click the links to register!

Basic Design for 3D Printing

Basic Design for 3D Printing

This workshop will cover basic design tips and tricks which will help attendees begin to think like a 3D design expert. We'll start by exploring basic concepts such as overhangs, build plate orientation and intersection geometry using pre-printed examples. Attendees will also be able to put these concepts into practice by creating their own models in Tinkercad.

Participants will learn the basics of designing for 3D printing through pre-printed examples. More advanced topics will be covered as time allows. ***No experience necessary.

All sessions will be held in Joyner Library, room 1020. Click the links to register!

Preparing your Model to 3D Print

Preparing Your Model to 3D Print

Learn the basic controls of Meshmixer, a free mesh repair software from Autodesk, so you can prepare your models for a successful print. We will cover how to check your models for gaps, holes and intersecting geometries, and discuss how to add your own support structures to overhangs which could save yourself time and money. ***While no prior experience is necessary, registrants should be comfortable experimenting with a sometimes quirky software.
